Meditation- is it the vehicle to a true sense of self?

How do we find the meaning of happiness? Is there such a thing? What does happiness mean to you?

Being that the world we live has become so competitive in the aspect of business, and marketing has it become the same for each and every piece of who and what we are?

Let’s take a brief moment to reflect on our sense of self. Think about how much the average individuals day, or your own. Think about all of the action, people, communication, sound, scenery and emotion seen, but also the relationships, objects, feelings, and thoughts that are understood and process of understanding. Our environment greatly affects who we are, but there are plenty of ingredients needed to make-you!

So now that you have a strong sense of the power of your (or an individuals) environment, think about all that you choose to expose yourself too; such as facebook. Videogames, television, magazines, blogs, radio, there are a million ways one can be impacted by naturally but also by choice.

So- Is it possible to find inner truth disconnected from the world?
What if an individual chose not to include him or herself from the daily activities that he or she chose to include in his or her own life.  Although, there is much little control over what an individual is still exposed to naturally unless one moves to a land in the middle of no where-but even then, there may still be things that impact a persons sense of self.

I think it is important to understand the ways and areas the media and society may be impacted. Our way of the world is centered by ideas of marketing and business techniques. What this questions is if these same ideals are interpreted into how we feel and connect ourselves to the world?

We know to understand we find a way to relate, As do most business men working collectively to form this pattern of competition and learned style of interpreting the meaning of the world. Are we then robotically adjusting to relationships with others including ourselves in the same way in which we connect to objects.

Is this the reason for divorce rate being so high, rape, teenage pregnancy, etc.
Lets think about the average pre-teen, or tween when a new cell phone comes out and becomes extremely popular. They usually want it and have to have it, with this idea attached to what life would be like or change with it. This is not seen to the individual themselves that this is temporary, because when the next edition of that phone comes out- all the ideas of the original phone are quickly dropped and applied to the newly advertised phone. Do we do this with everything, have we become so bored and so thirsty for constant entertainment that we have created a loosing battle to find  happiness within ourselves?

Who are we without it all? When we meditate can we hear, feel or think of the world in any different manor?

I found this very interesting reading, although I found it difficult to find out any deeper info. on the author etc. I wanted to share it, the first paragraph alone says a lot. It was a powerful read I thought many would enjoy.

What helps you to relax and find peace, can you- do you feel a sense of total comfort in who you are, where you live, and all that you have done and plan? Does meditation work, or does it only temporarily quiet the mind? What are some of your thoughts?
This particular article covers several interesting points about what the uses of meditation are but also the ideas of finding your sense of self...
